Studio graphics for a national cup, run out of a browser

For Football Australia's Hahn Australia Cup, LIGR built a twenty-graphic broadcast package and ran the studio show from Control Room — a rundown in a Google Sheet, a rack at the broadcaster, and a browser in the gallery.

The Challenge

A competition that changes shape every round

The Australia Cup is a national knockout: A-League clubs drawn against NPL and state-league sides, in venues that change every round, with the next draw made on air. A studio show built around it has to carry brackets, qualified teams, formations, promos and a panel — and be rebuilt between rounds, on a week's notice, without the look drifting.

Studio graphics are normally the part of a broadcast that pins you to a building: a graphics engine in the rack room, a proprietary client, an operator sitting in front of it. For a competition this shape, that is the expensive constraint — not the design.

How It Works

Sheet in, air out

A rack at the broadcaster

LIGR installed servers at the broadcaster in July 2026, so the package arrives in the gallery as a clean source alongside the network's own feeds — selected on the vision mixer like any other input, to LINE and PREVIEW.

A rundown in a spreadsheet

The studio rundown lives in a Google Sheet — a tab literally called Fixtures - Studio Gfx, holding the studio version of every fixture: teams, kick-off, score, whether the result is shown yet, and a title override for anything that needs one. Control Room reads it, so the show is built before the show starts.

Preview, then take

The show is operated from the LIGR Control Room in a browser: match events down one side, the graphics rundown down the other, grouped into Pre Match, Lower Thirds, Scorebug, Full Frames, Draw GFXs and Studio Graphics. Every row previews before it takes. No graphics workstation, no proprietary client.

Fixed between rounds

After the round of 32, twelve issues were logged on the Monday night. Eight were fixed and confirmed live inside twenty-four hours — including a stream auto-reconnect, a crash in the live stats feed and an editable match clock.

Under The Hood

A spreadsheet, a browser, a renderer

No part of this chain is exotic. The rundown is a Google Sheet. The gallery runs a web page. The graphics are Rive files rendered by Fuse. That is the whole stack.

What It Takes

Studio kit without the studio kit

Twenty graphics, one theme

Scorebug with VAR, card, substitution, team-stats and added-time extensions; scoreline, formations, team lists, match stats, fixtures, qualified teams, the round-of-16 bracket, promos, countdown, weather and a family of presenter, commentator, name, stats and talking-point lower thirds.

On the broadcaster's own infrastructure

A LIGR rack at the network means the graphics path is short and local — no public internet between the renderer and the switcher on show night.

A spreadsheet the production team already knows

Nobody had to learn a graphics language. The rundown is a Google Sheet; the graphics follow it. Changes made minutes before air are live in the Control Room preview.

Designed in Rive, rendered by Fuse

The package is authored in Rive and rendered by LIGR's HTML5 engine, so the studio look and the match look are the same files — no second build for the studio show.

Operated remotely

The show was run with the team spread across time zones rather than assembled in one gallery. The studio graphics for a national cup came out of a browser.

Fixed between rounds, not between seasons

A knockout cup gives you a week. Issues raised after one round were shipped and confirmed live before the next.
